Thank you, Tina.

If Tina Can Do It, We All Can.

You are likely seeing many, many tributes pouring out for Tina Turner.

This one is published NextTribe, a membership website for women who "age boldly". (I wonder where they got THAT slogan.  Since it's a membership site, you may not be able to access it without a sign-on...

In that event, here's a fabulous Tina Turner interview by Harvard Business Review.

Yes. Really.

But, the reason I like the NextTribe tribute is the perspective of a woman recreating herself, the BOLD steps taken, the courage to go into the unknown and change, not only herself but, in many ways, the world.

Nothing new is revealed, no. But you get a clear picture of the many times she made decisions that took her from one phase of life to another.

I encourage you to read this and/or the interview, or other Tina Turner tributes, through the lens of a woman (you) who:

  •    Is desperate to find herSELF and her way in a new life,
  •    Has finally found a new path and is about to take the first, frightening step, or
  •    Can't imagine anyone having any problems at all in life.

As I embark on another new life path myself, reading this gives me:

  • Hope,
  • Encouragement, and
  • Humility and gratitude that I've been so fortunate in my life.

RIP Tina Turner. And thank you.

It’s been a week since I promised some insight about my big bungee jump move but here I am, still staring at this blank page. There are such mixed emotions with this move, I imagine that’s what the procrastination was about. But, moving forward — It’s happening. I’m moving from Austin to Charleston, hitting the road on Monday, 12 June.

THE worst thing you can do right after you retire is … commit - to anything.

Happiness & purpose go hand-in-hand. Are you struggling to find fulfillment and a sense of purpose in your post-career life? If so, you'd probably say that you're struggling to find happiness in your retirement, too. But, there's a theory that suggests that happiness actually INCREASES with age. You may initially scoff at this theory, but stick with me. It actually makes sense.

Does this sound familiar? After the honeymoon phase of retirement wears off, you start feeling like something is missing from your life. It’s not the money, or the work itself, but missing more of a sense of purpose. It's not uncommon to feel this way. You might say that you need to “ find your new purpose ”. But, I’m going to challenge you to think about it differently. An ADVERB not NOUN Rather than looking to FIND your purpose, try committing to LIVE with purpose . I used to consider purpose as something to pursue, like a job title or an award. But now I believe the true purpose is deeper and more personal than that. Purpose is a lifestyle, a way of being in the world where you fully engage with the present moment, which enables you to better recognize and make the most of every opportunity. Your purpose isn’t any one specific activity or event. There are the lucky few who do discover a calling, a key purpose for which they were born - or that's our perception.
